Phrygian...

I was at my ex-music school's bass and electric guitar audition this morning, as my younger sister was scheduled to perform as one of the senior students. Sitting initially at the last row, I watched as the students prepared themselves to perform, some being their very first time, while others were seasoned performers. It was arranged that the newer students performed first, saving the best for last. As the students played songs from all sorts of genre, I was reminded of the good old days when I learnt all those variety of songs. After 3 years in medical school, I was wondering if I could even play them anymore. As I mentioned earlier, I went to watch my sister, who was performing second last, and more importantly, I went to watch my beloved electric guitar, Phrygian, appear on stage. Since I bought it a few years back, I have not done justice to it, as it was mainly left at home in my room gathering dust, while I was in KL. Image hosted by Photobucket.com After the audition, I went back and picked up Phrygian. I tried to play those songs from Joe Satriani, Dream Theatre and Vinnie Moore which I heard and realised to my horror that after so long, my skills have rotted and my fingers had lost the hardened "skin pad" which used to make running scales and bending painless. After just an hour of jamming, I surrendered. I looked at my fingers and saw the skin peeling off. Sigh. I realised I really missed playing the electric guitar... Image hosted by Photobucket.com Note: In case you are wondering, the Phrygian Mode is a Minor mode of scale, originally ascending from E to E. The pattern of interval is Semitone-Tone-Tone-Tone-Semitone-Tone-Tone. I decided to name my guitar Phrygian as I liked the sound of it. It's an Ibanez RG 450, made in Japan.
