Kampung Life

Image hosted by Photobucket.com I wouldn't say that I didn't learn anything from the CRP. So far, after visiting the rural areas and observing kampung life, I've learn to appreciate town life and not take things for granted. Nowadays, the kampung isn't as ulu as it used to be, as the toilets are no longer a pit in the ground, they have piped water, and almost all houses have TV, even Astro. However, the garbage collection in the inner areas is still lacking, so rubbish is usually gathered outside the house and burned. Tins and other metals are sometimes just left around, collecting water and thus encouraging the breeding of mosquitoes, especially Aedes. I smacked a few dead while some managed to bite me. Therefore, dengue is also a big problem here. During the survey, we had to ask them about their weekly meat, fish, vege and fruit intake. Turns out that most of them eat chicken/meat once a week or even once a month. And to think I was grumbling about the hostel food when we get to eat chicken everyday. We also survey their monthly income and expenditure and more than half of them spend more than they earn. I wonder how they survive... It was nice to see a lot of fruit trees around, namely durian, nangka, rambutan and mango trees, while there were also tons of chicken running around. The difference between kampung chicken and normal chicken is the kampung ones run around a lot, thus they are pretty lean and have sexy legs. Haha. There were also cows, turkeys, geese and squirrels to be seen. The air there was a mixture of cow dung and sweet fruity smell from the ripening fruits. Anyway, in conclusion, I am so thankful for all that I have and I'm so glad that I live in a town.
